Purpose of award: To reward students for their scholarship, initiative and cooperation.
Eligibility requirements: Applicants must be high school students who prepare throughout the school year history presentations based on an annual theme. Around February or March students compete in district History Day contests. District winners then prepare for the state contests, held usually in April or May. Those winners advance to the national contest held in June at the University of Maryland.
