Purpose of award: To provide pre-doctoral graduate education for sociology students.
Eligibility requirements: Applicants must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program in sociology departments that have National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) relevant research programs and/or faculty who are currently engaged in research focusing on topics important to the NIMH and NIDA. Students may be earlier in their graduate career but must be accepted into a Ph.D. program in sociology. Recipients are selected on the basis of their commitment to research, the focus of their research experience, academic achievement, scholarship, writing ability, research potential, financial need and racial/ ethnic minority background. Applicants must be members of one of the following racial/ethnic groups: African American, Latino, American Indian or Alaskan Native or Asian or Pacific Islander. An application, essay, three recommendation letters and transcripts are required.
